We are a community based group of gardeners and allotment holders base on the Stud Farm Estate in Polegate, behind The Thoroughbred Inn.
The land on which the housing estate is now situated was owned by The Duke of Devonshire, who also owned the stables to the rear of the estate. This is the reason that all of the roads on the estate are named after famous racehorses of the 1930’s. During World War 2 the “Dig For Victory” campaign meant that the land designated for tennis courts and a bowling green was used to grow food. Following the conclusion of the War, the land was given to the newly formed Stud Farm Allotment & garden Societyu to be continued as allotments for the residents of the housing estate.
As well as the allotments the Society organises a number of social events each year. Our biggest event is the Annual show held in August. There are over 80 classes that members can enter including Fruit, Vegetables, Flowers, Art, Handicrafts, Cookery and Photography. Other social events include Boules evenings, Quiz Nights, Games Evenings and Afternoon Teas.
Membership of the Society is £2.00 per year and is open to all residents of the Stud Farm Estate and allotment holders from off the estate. If you would like to join you can contact the Secretary by email on firstname.lastname@example.org or call / text 07834385358.
